Some of the Golden Girls competed in the LSN solo competition in late January for their regional competition and placed as follows: Freshman category: Angelina Gordon- 9th Jillian Jameson- 13th Sophomore category: Peyton Williams- 4th Junior category: Ainsley Daniels- 14th The team is headed to state this Saturday, February 28th which will be held at Municipal Auditorium. Lyrical- 3:30pm and pom- 6:12pm.
Last week we took the trip east on I-70 to St. Louis to compete in the State Championship Meet to close out our season. The girls were able to qualify at least one swimmer in 9 out of the 11 events including relays. Our state roster this year was very young and mostly underclassmen, so nerves were definitely high competing at a meet of this caliber for the first time. However, the girls were able to accomplish some incredible feats to finish in 21st out of 58 teams (the highest team finish in 5 years). The girls team has not brought a relay back to finals since 2019. However, the girls were able to qualify 2 relays (top 16 finish in preliminaries) for finals! For the first time since 2021, we also had an individual swimmer qualify for finals on day 2! If you know any of these girls, then please congratulate them on an excellent season! 200 Medley Relay Coming into the meet these girls were the 15th seed. With just 1 second separating 10th place and 17th place, the girls knew they had their work cut out for them. On Thursday morning the girls were able to secure the 15th seed going into finals! On Friday morning they swam a great race and finished in 16th place! Emma Cox Izzy Fowler Kaylie Gerber Olivia Burgard 200 IM Izzy Fowler - Freshman Izzy Fowler competed in her first of two individual events on Thursday morning. Izzy got off to a hot start in the first half of the race, but couldn't quite hold onto that speed in the back half of the race. The freshman ended up finishing in an impressive 28th place! 50 Freestyle Kaylie Gerber - Coming into the meet Kaylie was the 7th seed in this event. On Thursday she finished with a new PR to secure the 5th seed heading into day 2. On Friday, she swam a great race that was just shy of her PR from the day before to finish in 7th place! 100 Butterfly Kaylie Gerber - On Thursday during prelims Kaylie had an unfortunate incident while standing behind the blocks. Her goggles snapped and broke as she was preparing to step up on the block. However, a teammate was standing by and gave Kaylie her goggles. Despite being stunned and flustered, Kaylie showed incredible resilience and focus and finished just tenths of a second shy of her PR to secure the top spot in the consolation final heat as the 9th seed. On Friday Kaylie had an outstanding race with some of the best turns, underwaters, and breakouts I've seen from her. Kaylie was able to finally break the 1 minute barrier to finish in 9th place with a 59.86! 500 Freestyle Eden Roling - Eden just barely snuck her way into the state meet as she was the last seed, 32nd. On Thursday Eden swam her most consistent race of the season and managed to drop a little over 2 seconds. She moved up 10 spots to finish in 22nd! 200 Freestyle Relay These girls had a great race and finished with a PR. However, they were unfortunately disqualified due to an early false start. Their time would have been good enough for a 26th place finish. Both Halle and Eden had PRs in their legs of the relay! Halle Wright Eva Cox Eden Roling Olivia Burgard 100 Backstroke Emma Cox - Freshman Emma Cox competed in her sole individual event on Thursday morning. After dealing with injuries and sickness the week leading up to the meet, Emma was still able to put on a great performance. She came out of the gates hot, but ultimately couldn't quite hang on to that speed in the back half of the race. The freshman ended up finishing in an impressive 23rd place! 100 Breaststroke Izzy Fowler - The freshman competed in her 2nd individual event of the meet on Thursday. Izzy had a great race, but was unfortunately disqualified due to an illegal finish. Truthfully, this call was one of the most bizarre and awful calls I've seen in my coaching career. 400 Freestyle Relay Coming into the meet these girls were the 19th seed, so they were on the outside looking in trying to secure a spot in finals for day 2. On Thursday they finished with a PR and moved up 3 places to secure the last spot in finals as the 16th seed! On Friday they dropped 2 more seconds for another PR and moved up 2 more spots to finish in 14th place! Kaylie, Eden, and Izzy all had PRs in their legs of the relay! Kaylie Gerber Eden Roling Emma Cox Izzy Fowler My staff and I are incredibly proud of all that these girls accomplished this season and the growth they've shown in and out of the pool.
